The Prodigal Sons

An Elevated Alternative To Traditional Sober Living
An Aspirational Future
Right now, our priority is providing our residents with lodging, amenities and support. But with community involvement and local sponsorship, we can achieve so much more and better set up our residents for life-long sobriety! See below a few of our aspirations for the future! Like what you see? Have an idea for our Mission House? Click the 'Get Involved' page and send us an email. We want to hear from YOU!

Converting Our Large Shed Into A Chicken Coop

A large shed sits empty on the property and it would be perfect for housing chickens! Since our original conception, we knew we wanted to convert it for that purpose. The coop would be resident-run and eggs would contribute to the sustainment of the home. This large coop could provide enough eggs for the house and extra eggs can be donated to our amazing local foodbank, Hometown Connect! Residents who participate would benefit from the opportunity to learn hands-on what it takes to care for chickens and manage one’s own egg supply. It is our hope that such experience would give them enough confidence and knowledge to implement chicken coops of their own in the future!

Turning Our Attached Garage Into A Small Gym

With limited transportation abilities, even many of our interested residents have never had the opportunity to pursue physical fitness through gym access. At Prodigal Sons, we would like to bring the gym to them. A designated work-out area is a great way to provide these men with a healthier alternative to sedentary recreation, creates the opportunity for further bonding among residents, and promotes healthy, life-long habits. Implementing a work-out routine is a great outlet for testosterone and energy, and introducing natural highs like those resulting from physical exertion, can help replace cravings for the less-than-ideal highs our residents have previously fell prey to. We have already began building a collection of gently-used gym equipment and hope to have the space up and running by the summer of 2025!

Purchasing a Transport Van for the House

Many of our tenants are lacking means of transportation, limiting their abilities to pursue employment over longer distances, manage errands and even attend recovery meetings. At present, our generous house manager personally ferries residents to and from work, but with a growing occupancy and the limited space in a pick-up truck, this option will not be sustainable for long. It is our aim to procure a large passenger van capable of transporting our residents to and from meetings, church services, and work, without the additional struggle of coordinating multiple trips, drivers and vehicles.

Expanding our Mission’s Resident Quarters

At present, The Prodigal Sons accommodates 14 residents in nearly 6,000 square feet of space. But we have an even higher goal in mind. The Mission House sits on top of a very large, unfinished basement and occupies nearly 1500 sqft of unused space. It is our aim to finish the basement, outfit it with several bedrooms, large facilities and a recreation area for table games. This remains our most ambitious plan for the future and will rely on the help of skilled laborers, donated materials and as always, lots and lots of prayer.
